Without data, you’re just another person with an opinion.

W. Edwards Deming

Howdy there,

Do you like gardening? My mum sure does. It’s her favorite pastime.

There’s a running joke in my family, that there are more plants than humans at her place.

Well jokes aside, I visited my mum the other day and I happened to ask her about gardening and what’s the secret sauce to it.

She replied ‘It’s all in the soil. It’s the foundation that makes plants flourish’.

Well, I’m not into gardening but her advice can be applied to so many things.

A lot depends on the foundation.

Take Email Marketing as an example.

The foundation of any email marketing campaign is its overall strategy.

  • Overall purpose of the email: Every email/email sequence should have a clear goal. Something that it wants to achieve. For example: The goal of the Welcome Email is to give a warm welcome to new subscribers, build a connection and get acquainted with key resources.

  • Choosing the right segment: Once you have a clear goal for the email, next you need to select the right segment to deliver the email to. For example: The Welcomer Email should be sent only to new subscribers and not the entire mailing list.

  • Analyze the email for the next steps: Once the email is sent, review the email metrics for performance and then decide on what needs to be done next. Should there be a follow up email? Should I tweak the subject line or content?

Well, most email marketers get the first (goal) and second (segment) thing right, but they often miss out on reviewing their emails for performance. So that’s what I will be talking about in this newsletter…

Why do email marketing metrics matter?

Email marketing is more than just hitting “send.” It’s about understanding your audience, refining your message, and optimizing for success. But how do you turn numbers into action?

  • Make data your best friend: Good analytics show you where to go, what’s working, what needs tweaking, and hidden opportunities.

  • Cheers to continuous improvement: Regularly analyzing your email campaign metrics helps you refine your approach for better results.

Let’s put this into practice:

The power of knowing your metrics: my personal experience

As someone deeply immersed in email marketing, I’ve come to realize the critical role metrics play in shaping successful campaigns.

Let me share some insider tips that have made a world of difference in my campaigns:

  • Behavioral CTR insights: Track click-through rates (CTR) to understand user preferences and tailor content (videos, articles, infographics) accordingly.

  • List engagement analysis: Monitor read rates, forward rates, and spam complaints to gauge list health. Segment subscribers by engagement to re-engage inactive ones.

  • A/B Testing: Test subject lines, content, images, and CTAs to find the best-performing variations and improve your emails continuously.

  • Advanced personalization: Use dynamic content to personalize emails based on past interactions and purchase history, boosting CTR and conversion rates.

  • Segmentation: Create personalized experiences by segmenting based on behavior and preferences, such as using emojis in subject lines for responsive groups.

Did you know? Icegram Express works on Non-WordPress sites too…

Icegram Express is currently designed to work within the WordPress environment. This means that if you have websites or landing pages that are not built on WordPress, you won’t be able to directly use the plugin on those sites.

But with the “Remote Subscription Form” feature, you can collect subscribers from non-WordPress sites too. Here’s how:

  • Create a subscription form in Icegram Express on your WordPress site.
  • Embed the form on your non-WordPress sites using the provided code.
  • Collect subscribers from all sites, seamlessly adding them to your Icegram Express list on WordPress.
